Most likely you've never been to the NYU School of Ancient Studies. Sometimes they have events on the Ancient World open to the general public including surveying of artifacts. They aren't far from the MET museum.
Have you also checked out the NY Historical Society?
Get a beer at the boathouse bar in the afternoon. Really nice. And go see some some free performances at summerstage afterwards. Those two might be obvious but they’re good ones. Also, the Lexington candy shop for lunch. Ethyl’s Alcohol and food for a fun evening
He's been to a lot of eating places on the UES already.
What he really needs is only food for thought such as visual and cerebral experiences.
Also near the museums are these cultural embassies which sometimes host interesting events.
Check out the Cultural Services of the French Embassy which is also near the MET.
If you like French culture or want to know what is going on in France, check them out. But really, you need to check out their bookstore known as Albertine that sells French books. It's really a nice store to visit with cool artwork on the ceiling. Good for Instagramming as well.
